The most extraordinary stories often brush past us without our even noticing. Small, fragile, hidden among the things that seem to have no value. What Am I Doing Here... On Stage was born from this search for the invisible—from the desire to bring back into focus lives that all too often find no place in the stories we tell about the world.
Investigative journalist, author and one of the leading faces of Rai 3, Domenico Iannacone brings to the stage the narrative universe of Che ci faccio qui (What Am I Doing Here), the television programme through which he has spent years travelling across Italy in search of lives left at the margins. His distinctive neo-realist storytelling is transformed into an intimate theatrical experience, where investigative reporting becomes direct encounter, listening and revelation. Theatre makes possible what television cannot always achieve: on stage, Iannacone sheds the constraints and pace of television and discovers a different rhythm—more human, more vulnerable, closer to the people whose lives he has encountered. His investigations cease to be mere reports and become living presences, bringing to the surface emotions, contradictions and unresolved questions. While images open visual windows onto reality, words deepen our emotional perception, and the theatre becomes a space of civic consciousness, mending broken rights, revealing hidden vulnerabilities and giving voice to truths that have long gone unheard.
A performance that goes beyond representation: an invitation to look at the world with fresh eyes, to recognize humanity in unexpected places, and to be moved by stories that ask to be heard, remembered—and finally given back their voice.
Domenico Iannacone is a journalist, author and television presenter. He has worked as a reporter for programmes such as Ballarò and Presa Diretta. He created and hosted I dieci comandamenti (The Ten Commandments) and, since 2019, has been the creator and presenter of Che ci faccio qui (What Am I Doing Here), one of Rai 3's most distinctive investigative and social affairs programmes. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards, including five Ilaria Alpi Awards, the Paolo Borsellino Award, the Premiolino, the Ryszard Kapuściński Award, the Franco Cuomo Award, and the Umberto Zanotti Bianco National Award, presented by Italia Nostra. Alongside his television work, he has also developed a theatrical career in recent years as both writer and performer, continuing his commitment to socially engaged storytelling.
